Do The Sunglasses Have The "Shelf Life"

In summer, many people like to wear sunglasses when they go out for the sun. However, have you noticed the "shelf life" of sunglasses?  And do you know the overdue sunglasses would harm to our eyes? OK, let's take a look together!!👇👇

According to a new study, the "shelf life" of a pair of sunglasses is about 2 years. After "expiration", sunglasses are likely to lose its protective eye.

The British media quoted researchers at the University of São Paulo in Brazil as saying that long-term exposure to sunlight in the lens will reduce the ability to prevent UV rays. If it is not replaced for a long time, it will easily cause damage to the cornea and cause vision problems.

Research suggests that exposure to the sun may degrade your sunglasses, the lens may become lighter, and reduce the lens's resistance to resistance, which is the lens's shatterproof index.

The World Health Organization has published "UV Radiation and Human Health", which states that 5% of the 18 million people worldwide who are blinded by cataracts each year are caused by ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet rays can also cause other serious eye diseases - keratitis, retinal destruction, cataracts, macular degeneration, and snow blindness. Therefore, sunglasses that can filter ultraviolet rays are an important part of our ability to protect our eyes in the sun.

The researchers conducted simulations in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South America, placing sunglasses under a daylight simulator, 30 cm from the point of illumination, and continuing to "exposure" for 50 hours while observing the degree of degradation of the lens' UV protection.

The results of the experiment show that due to the different sunshine in different regions of the world, sunglasses in the tropical regions and regions with the highest UV levels will degrade faster.

According to the study, the degradation of sunglasses
varies with latitude, and the tropical UV index is particularly high in summer and not in winter. Researchers suggest that it is best to replace a pair of new ones when buying sunglasses for more than two years.

All in all, be sure to choose a pair of sunglasses that suits you and change them regularly. Don't let sunglasses become the stealth killer of your eyes. Enjoy your summer!!😺😺
